About Us
Experience, Trust, and Reliability
Our company has a long history of providing comprehensive and environmentally-friendly solutions for managing all types of batteries. In 1989, we became the first recycling facility in California to be permitted under the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act (RCRA) to manage hazardous waste batteries. This was a significant achievement for our company, and we have been leaders in battery recycling ever since.
Over the years, we have continued to invest in technology and expertise to handle all kinds of batteries, from common household batteries to the most advanced hybrid and electric vehicle batteries. Our Anaheim location is a Part B Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF) specializing in the proper management of recoverable metals and other components from used batteries. This facility sits on 4.2 acres of land and is permitted to receive up to 7.5 million lbs. of waste batteries monthly.
In 2019, we completed a $4 million upgrade to our Anaheim facility, which included state-of-the-art emission control equipment. We have also been committed to sustainable energy practices for many years. Initially implemented in 2010, and expanded in 2020, a nearly 1 gigawatt solar system supplies almost all the energy requirements for our operations.
We are proud of our legacy in the battery recycling industry and are dedicated to providing safe and sustainable solutions for managing all types of batteries.
Integrated Management System Policy
KBI believes that protecting the environment and providing a safe workplace for our team and visitors is a responsibility shared by management and employees. Management is responsible for ensuring that a continual process is in place for: recognizing, managing, and mitigating environmental impacts, preventing injury and illness at the workplace, developing a safety culture, and achieving and managing sustainable compliance.
We are committed to implementing an Integrated Environmental and Health and Safety Management System to promote compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and to promote continual improvement in EH&S performance.
KBI’s process for planning and implementing our Integrated Management System: (1) Define responsibility and assign accountability; (2) Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace hazards and environmental risks; (3) Provide employee safety and environmental compliance training; and (4) Routinely check compliance and implement required Corrective Actions.

KBI's IMS Policy relies on these essential components to ensure that employees understand their compliance obligations and that appropriate resources are available to implement and sustain compliance. It defines KBI’s continual process for recognizing, managing, and mitigating environmental impacts, preventing injury and illness at the workplace, developing a safety culture, and for achieving and managing sustainable compliance.
Joining Forces for Sustainable Battery Recycling
Our Affiliation with Cirba Solutions
Our company has a strong affiliation with Cirba Solutions, one of the largest recyclers of electric and hybrid vehicle batteries in North America. This partnership began in 1995 when we purchased a large stake in Retriev Technologies Inc., a company specializing in the recovery of valuable metals from primary lithium, lithium-ion, and nickel batteries.

Over the years, Retriev Technologies continued to expand its operations, ultimately merging with two other battery recycling companies, Battery Solutions and Heritage Battery Recycling. The culmination of this merger was Cirba Solutions. We are proud to maintain a large investment in Cirba Solutions, and utilize them as a downstream partner and processor for many of the end-of-life batteries received at our recycling facilities.

This partnership with Cirba Solutions is integral to our commitment to environmentally responsible battery recycling. We believe that by working together, we can continue to innovate and lead the way in sustainable battery recycling practices, ultimately reducing waste and protecting the environment for future generations.
